You Can Now Buy Audiobooks on Google Play Store
If you’re an Android user and someone who likes books read out to them, you’ll be delighted to know that Google will finally sell audiobooks on the Play Store. As spotted by 9to5Google, the Play Store will add audiobooks to the roster of digital products it sells to its customers. This is an obvious reply to perhaps Google’s biggest rival at the moment, Amazon, who currently dominates the audiobook market with the aggressive audiobook-platform Audible.
In fact, as reported by Android Police, it appears Google Play Books is also going to get support for audiobooks—an obvious response to Amazon’s decision to support audiobooks on Kindles. Of course, Amazon isn’t the only company cashing in on audiobooks, the likes of Spotify are slowly adding podcasts and audiobooks to their roster. Google has got to keep up.
Of course, all this competition leads to us getting more and better options as consumers. As a voracious reader myself, I welcome this gladiator-like battle to win the audiobook-listening crowd.
No word as of yet when all of this will push through at Google, but we’re betting sometime soon this year. Stay put for updates.
