So, Instagram Finally Lets Users Follow Hashtags
Good people of Instagram: You can now follow hashtags!
Instagram is constantly making new features that make sense. This feature is particularly useful because it lets users discover new people to follow. Conversely, the feature helps when you don’t want to follow a whole bunch of people, but just a specific topic. In short, ditch that supermodel account and essentially follow all of the fashionable ladies and lads of Insta in just one hashtag.
As a sidebar, I think this is also an important new feature for social managers who are tracking posts under a specific hashtag.
To access the feature, tap on a hashtag and hit “follow” the same way you would a profile. This will have you follow that hashtag and will populate your timeline with posts. Instagram, however, wants to press that following a hashtag will only show the most popular posts on your timeline. This is done so as to not make you feel overwhelmed when following, say, a hashtag as popular as #vsco.
As for security, same rules apply: if your account is set to private, people who don’t follow you won’t be able to see which hashtags you follow.
