Facebook debuts its own dating feature

by | May 3, 2018 | Apps

Facebook has announced its new dating feature at the recently wrapped F8 event. With this move, Facebook is competing with the likes of already-established dating app juggernauts, Tinder and Bumble.

“This is going to be for building real long-term relationships, not just hookups,” notes Facebook CEO, Mark Zuckerberg. Users will be able to interact with dating prospects secretly, he adds, pointing that dating activity will be private from users’ friends. The feature is also opt-in, meaning it will not automatically match you with other single Facebook users unless you specifically tell Facebook to do so.

Moreover, Facebook will link you with prospects based on similar events and groups, something that Tinder and Bumble don’t have (yet). Facebook Dating will provide users a new profile independent of the one users use on Facebook, with a separate inbox.

Facebook will be testing the features in the coming months, and later will officially launch it.
