This Is the First Phone to Have A Fingerprint Scanner on its Screen
Vivo has just announced that its newest premium flagship—the Vivo X20—is set for launch this January 24th. This sticks out from the number of smartphones Vivo is slated to release this year because the X20 is the first smartphone that ships with an in-screen fingerprint scanner, powered by Synaptics. Invites are already sent out to key tech figureheads to its launch event in Beijing, China, on the aforementioned date.
Vivo first showed off its in-screen fingerprint scanner tech at CES 2018 and it succeeded in drumming up quite some buzz and attention to its upcoming release. Both OnePlus 6 and Doogee V are expected to have a similar in-screen scanner as the X20’s, and it’s not unlikely that OnePlus and Vivo’s sister company, Oppo, will also release a phone with the same functionality. Even Samsung’s new flagship, the Galaxy S9, is rumored to have one; and, of course, the succeeding iterations of the iPhone (the feature was supposed to debut with the iPhone X).
No info has been released yet regarding local pricing and availability, but it’s believed that the Vivo X20 is going to have the hefty price tag of 3,999 CNY (approximately 31,000++ PHP).
