SJCAM SJ8 series now official in the Philippines

by | Jul 5, 2018 | Uncategorized

SJCAM just released a series of new action cams to the Philippine market—the SJ8 series, comprised of the SJ8 Pro, SJ8 Plus, and SJ8 Air. Each camera is robust, sporting promising internals and capabilities, and make for a lineup that should give GoPro a run for its money.

The SJ8 Pro sports a promising Sony IMX377 sensor with a 12MP resolution. It ships with an Ambarella H22 S85 chipset. The viewfinder is a 2.33-inch IPS touchscreen at its rear, and a 0.96-inch OLED panel at its front, as well as a 7G (2 Aspheric Lens) with a 170° field of view and f/2.8 aperture. It can shoot up to 60fps footage in 4K MP4, and up to 12-megapixel photos in both JPEG and RAW formats.

Both the Pro and its smaller sibling, the SJ8 Plus, has support for 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wifi bands, Inner Six-Axis Gyro stabilization, EIS, and an impressive 8x digital zoom. Both action cams carry a 1,200mA detachable battery and support for microSD cards of up to 128GB.

Speaking of the SJ8 Plus, it runs on a lesser Novatek NT966683 chipset, but has essentially the same features as the SJ8 Pro, save for video recording which maxes out at 30fps of 4K MP4 footage.

The SJ8 Air, meanwhile, runs on a Novatek NT96658 chipset and sports a Panasonic MN34112PA sensor that should be plenty enough to do most of the stuff you require from an action cam. Being the cheapest of the bunch, it’s understandable that the Air only has a rear 2.33-inch IPS touchscreen and no front-screen. However, the Air also doesn’t have support for 5GHz Wifi bands, as well as any form of stabilization or Digtial Zoom.

We strongly recommend you go for SJ8 Plus if you’re looking to make a bang-for-your-buck purchase. It hits the perfect middle ground between the sky-high specs of the SJ8 Pro and the shortcomings of the SJ8 Air.

Each action cam comes with a waterproof case and set of staple accessories. If you’re in the market for a new action cam, the SJ8 series looks like sensible buys and are now available on the SJCAM website, as well as online stores like Lazada. Pricing details follow below:

  • SJ8 Pro – PHP 15,999
  • SJ8 Plus – PHP 9,989
  • SJ8 Air – PHP 4,999
