Oppo F5 Youth: Budget Smartphone for Millennials
In a bid to get a piece of the pie from the millennial market, Oppo has announced its new Oppo F5 Youth, a smartphone designed to cater to millennial’s needs, chief among them is the need for perfect selfies. Which sounds a bit redundant, marketing-wise. It can be argued that Oppo’s 2017 flagship is already among the most millennial phones in the market: already it’s cheap, has a reliable real-world performance, and heck, they’ve even positioned themselves as Selfie Experts—and successfully so, I think.
So why make a smartphone that reiterates this position?
Well, there are new stuff. “With the release of the Oppo F5 Youth,” says Stephen Cheng, Oppo Philippines’ Brand Marketing Manager. “We give everyone an opportunity to get a full experience of the new generation of selfies with the same A.I. Beauty Recognition technology.” There’s also an immersive edge-to-edge 18:9 display, a speedy Facial Unlock feature, and an updated ColorOS that’s supposed to speed up app launches by approximately 23%—essentially what Oppo’s sister company, OnePlus, is trying to do with the 5T.
Of course, those are well and good. But it is the price that most definitely justifies the new phone’s release. The PR says that the phone sells at “a more attractive price point” than its flagship brother, the F5. Which is huge, considering how affordable already that phone is.
Here’s a quick look at the specs of the phone:
- 6-inch Full HD+ (2160 x 1080) 18:9 display
- 13MP rear camera
- 16MP front camera with A.I. Beauty Technology
- 2.5GHz octa-core CPU
- ColorOS 3.2
- Facial Unlock Technology
If you’re curious, drop by the Oppo Pop-Up store at SM Megamall on November 25, 2017. The first 30 customers to purchase the F5 Youth will receive a free Olike Bluetooth headset starting 3PM onwards on the day of the launch.
There’s no official pricing just yet, but PC Express lists it (in a post) at 13,990 PHP.
