Oppo A79 Is Now Official, But What For?

by | Nov 27, 2017 | Smartphones

On today’s odd smartphone releases: the Oppo A79 has been officially launched. It looks a lot like the Oppo R11s, but it also closely resembles Oppo’s premier flagship, the Oppo F5 (and its cheaper, youth-targeted alt, the Oppo F5, which launched yesterday). Who knows how the A79 will fit exactly in the Philippine market, what with all these phones already thriving in it.

Regardless, the Oppo A79 is a decent phone. It sports an able octa-core processor, a vivid six-inch OLED 2:1 FHD+ (2160 x 1080) display, and a promising 4GB RAM/64GB storage combo that are bound to make for an overall great phone experience.

Here’s the full list of specs:

  • 6-inch OLED FHD+ (2160 x 1080) display, 402ppi
  • MediaTek Helio P23 MT6763T 2.50GHz octa-core CPU
  • Mali-G71 MP2 GPU
  • 4GB RAM
  • 64GB internal storage
  • microSD card support (dedicated slot)
  • 16MP f/1.8 rear camera w/ LED flash
  • 16MP f/2.0 front camera
  • Dual-SIM (nano)
  • 4G LTE
  • WiFi 802.11 b/g/n
  • Bluetooth 4.2
  • GPS with aGPS support
  • Gyroscope
  • microUSB
  • Fingerprint scanner
  • Face Unlock
  • ColorOS 3.2 (Android 7.1.1 Nougat)
  • 3,000mAh Li-Ion battery

No release date or official pricing has been announced for the Oppo A79, but pricing is set at 360 USD (which roughly converts to around 18K PHP). That’s a tad higher than the price of Oppo F5, which makes A79 a bit of an odd phone with the current lineup. We’ll get more details from Oppo Philippines; maybe A79 is a sensible after all?
