Instagram wants you to unclog your feed by debuting a “mute” feature
Instagram is finally letting you “mute” accounts you follow. The feature is reported to come to all Instagram users in the coming weeks.
With the social media giant catering to approximately 800 million users, the phrase “everyone is on Instagram” is no longer a figurative expression. And of that number, there’s bound to be a few accounts that we’d want to wipe out off our feed, preferably quietly. In short, the “mute” feature that Instagram is reported to roll out in the later weeks is well sought after; in fact, we think it’s overdue.
If you want to preserve relationships IRL, the “unfollow” button is a complete no-no. The “mute” button will come in handy, being that it will not notify your friend when you “mute” a friend’s stories or posts or both. Of course, users can just as easily unmute their friends whenever they feel like jumping board back into their lives again.
To activate “mute” on an account, follow the steps we’ve laid out below:
- In their profile or one of their posts, hit the ellipsis icon.
- Hit the “Mute” button.
- Choose whether you want to mute either their posts or both their posts and stories.
That’s it. That Instagram friend is virtually out of your feed.
Again, this feature is rolling out to all Instagram users in the coming weeks, so make sure your Instagram is up-to-date to get it on-the-dot if it’s something you want to use.
