Bumble Launches Bizz, A LinkedIn-Like “Dating App”
Today in bizarre-but-might-actually-work-app-idea news: Bumble just released BumbleBizz, a new in-app feature that enables its users to create professional connections. To contextualize this for you, Bumble is a popular dating app, though it has, I think, surpassed that category. To a lot of people, Bumble is also, firstly, a social network where you can make friends. In short, it’s far from the likes of Tinder.
Enter Bizz, a new mode on Bumble designed for professional networking. This is in line with Bumble’s vision to become the “ultimate network for people you don’t yet know.” They have both lover and friend pinned down, as attested by its community of 20 million users, but it’d be interesting to see how it works as a LinkedIn-esque networking app. As a geo-targeted, swipe-left-or-right professional networking app, BumbleBizz is the first of its kind.
To access BumbleBizz, first, make sure you have the updated version of the app. You should then have the “Bizz” option in the drop-down menu next to Bumble’s logo. Tap it and a host of features will become available to you, including:
- Professional bio
- The types of opportunities you seek
These make Bizz a complete digital resume solution, much like LinkedIn and AngelList. The hook, however, is that BumbleBizz will implement the same “women first” policy when finding a match. This is an effort to “eliminate abuse and inappropriate behavior.”
A photo verification tool—already available to in Bumble’s Love and Friendship modes—is also being used to ensure the profiles are legitimate. This is a sensible move, I think, especially if one were to use Bizz to find potential hires or clients.
“Love, friendship, networking – these are all critical connections and the foundation of a healthy, happy life. We want to bring you closer to all of these connections, in an empowered way,” says Whitney Wolfe Herd, Founder and CEO of Bumble.
